Moto G (2014) 2nd gen XT1068 Marshmallow OTA Review.

Image
Android 6.0 OTA For Moto G 2nd gen Finally! Android 6.0 OTA for Moto G 2nd gen has been captured by XDA member. Basically, it's a soak test capture and may have some bugs.  As soon as I found out OTA for Marshmallow has been captured, I flashed stock Android lollipop (because I was using NXROM)  and after that, I just downloaded the OTA and updated my moto to Marshmallow. It took 10 min to install the update but took a long time to boot.  After booting, It was like, the best thing happened to the device. The animation, performance are better and most important there was no touch lag which can be found in some of the custom ROM. Camera app both Google Camera and Moto Camera performs well compared to custom ROM, I found that Camera in custom ROM lag very much when taking photos as I was not able to capture many moments because of that lag :(. I have used CM, nxrom, and stock ROM but I prefer using stock because it is more stable gives better battery life (...

Nexus Experience ROM for Moto G 2014 (Marshmallow)

Nexus Experience ROM for Moto G 2014  Nexus Experience ROM (NX ROM) is one of the best ROM that you can flash on your Moto G. This ROM gives you a Nexus like experience i.e. complete stock android experience with some Cyanogen features. The developer of this ROM uploads stable builds only and are good for daily use. I m using this ROM for some time now, didn't face any issues. Battery life is also pretty good and overall experience is better compared to CM 13 nightly builds. NX ROM is faster, smoother and feels good to use. Also now, you can also install Motorola apps directly from play store. If you want to taste marshmallow but don't want to wait for the official release or to use buggy CM 13 than NX ROM is best option to go. Here are steps that you can follow to install NX ROM. 1. Goto  https://nxrom.us/motog2.html Download the ROM 2. Download opengapps aroma edition or you can use standard Gapps which are provided by  Developer. (Don't i...

Moto G 2nd Gen working slow?

So, I have been using Moto G 2014 for months now. When Motorola launched Moto G 2nd Gen, it came with Android Kitkat OS. With Android Kitkat, Performance was pretty good, with little to no lag. Android Kitkat worked flawlessly for me, with normal usage. On heavy use, Moto used to lag/hang many times, but considering price and hardware specs this phone is not made for heavy use.  After few months Google released Android Lollipop, everyone was excited about new Android OS with some new features. One major change made by Google in Android Lollipop is ART runtime. ART is new runtime time, that introduced AOT (Ahead of Time compilation) which reduces Memory usage and improves app performance. Because of AOT app size increased, using more internal storage. With this new Android OS, comes a new design called Material design (which I love). Motorola, released android lollipop for Moto G 2nd Gen with few bug fixes. But still some major bugs were not fixed which lead to sudden slowing ...

OpenWrt vs DD-Wrt. Which one to use?

Image
Why use third party firmware? Nowadays, everyone is using routers in their home and offices. The router, you use are made for home/office purpose, able to manage a handful of devices. Default firmware provided with the router may have limited features which otherwise could be useful if configurable or comes with the bug (which does not get fixed quickly), stranding you to live with it. This also increases security risk for your home network. Imagine a situation, where an outsider is able to connect to your home network and eat your bandwidth or delete data from your home devices or stealing contacts from your phone.  For me, the reason behind using a third party open source firmware is mainly performance, complete control of the network, the new version is made available faster and they can run for days without restarting the router. Installing third party firmware gives you a granular level of control along with business level features, utilizing hardware's max...
